I don't mean to alarm any of you, but I think I've made a big discovery.
There's this thing within evolution where things are repurposed into something unrecognizable rather than invented from scratch... A fish fin might turn into an arm on some later mammal, all while some other fish parts might remain... dormant somewhere. You see, we've recently discovered that there's a gene we share with some fish... fish that sexually transition. By that I mean they biologically switch at a fundamental level.
It's this thing called DMRT-1
It turns on or off during human gestation, and it determines whether or not a gestating baby has ovaries or testicals.
We share this gene with mice, and other mammals. A study was done where a mouse had the gene toggled then started biologically producing the hormones of an opposite sex. Given that this gene seems to retain its function, at least in mice, it doesn't seem like much of a stretch to presume we all descend from a fish that changed sex. This isn't to say that ALL of life itself is trans on that basis, because there's still pre-eukaryotes floating around, but at least a WHOLE LOT is at least SLIGHTLY QUEER. (Infinitely more than zero by the way.) It might not even be every mammal, but it's definitely every human that is and ever will be.
For all we know, our common ancestor might have transitioned MULTIPLE TIMES in perfect sync with the phases of the moon. Some of us might know this ancestor as their great (to the power of x) grandmother, and others might know them as their great (to the power of y) grandfather. That might be difficult for a lot of people to wrap their heads around... All the people that want to treat trans people like some kind of terrorist group literally have transness baked into the very fabric of their mereology. For all we know, if they were fish again they would have swapped between something like 50 times by now.
And, get this, it's easy to presume that we also have a T4T couple somewhere in our ancestry. At some point two fish got it on after BOTH sexually transitioned, and THEN conceived a common ancestor.
I just love the thought of someone pearl clutching after hearing a plot twist like that.
AND GET THIS! We can STILL technically have babies between two males or two females! Take STEM cells from male ejaculate or period blood, have them quantum collapse into sperm or eggs, then insert them into a donor womb and... voila! There might even be a day where we don't even need a donor womb, and we'll somehow be able to gestate the baby with some kind of machine... It's also possible that a womb could get extracted from one person's body, get recellularized, then be implanted into another person's body. Maybe we figure out how to naturally rapidly mutate between sexes without any surgery?
Considering this ancestor is universal to all of humanity, and some other mammals too, I'd like to call them the Universal Trans Ancestor. Doubtless nobody will take me seriously as an autodidact philosopher, but as my predictions come true all my jargon might somehow catch on. I might be called the parent of one or more fields one day... and all those fields are going to be at least SLIGHTLY QUEER. (Infinitely more than zero by the way.)
